CU2: Gaia Simulator
CU2 is the unit that provides simulated data to allow the development and validation of the data reduction algorithms of the mission, also generating large simulated samples for common use of the other CUs.
The CU2 Unit has provided to Gaia DPAC a huge volume of data (tera–bytes) for the several purposes:
- Mission design
- Instrumentation design
- Testing of reduction algorithms and their validation
- Scientific results
The Gaia Simulator
The Barcelona team has a strong participation in this Coordination Unit. We are responsible for the most important modules, such as the two data generators: GASS, designed to generate a large set of Gaia telemetry data in order to prepare data reduction algorithm; GOC, able to generate the final catalog of the mission.
