Marc del Alcázar-Julià has been part of the Gaia-UB group since 2023, when he did his master’s thesis under the supervision of Francesca Figueras. In 2024, he started his PhD thesis in the same field, the study of the star formation history (SFH) and the initial mass function (IMF) of the Milky Way using the Besançon Galaxy Model and Gaia data.
His interests include the study of the Galactic SFH and IMF, as well as the different ingredients of population synthesis models of the Milky Way (stellar evolution models, extinction maps, binarity, dynamical self-consistency…).
Since 2023, he has also been a member of the WEAVE Consortium within the WEAVE GA LR-disc and SCIP HR AC surveys. In 2024, he was awarded a grant within the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes Studentship Programme that allowed him to work for one year as an observer with WEAVE@WHT. Now he is back in Barcelona, where he is continuing his PhD thesis thanks to a FI-SDUR (Generalitat de Catalunya) grant.
