Xavier Luri is Full Professor at the Departament of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Barcelona where he teaches physics and astrophysics and has supervised several PhD. He is also the director of the Institute of Cosmic Science ot the Barcelona University (ICCUB/IEEC).
He is presently a member of the Gaia-DPAC (Gaia data processing consortium) executive commitee, where he has been manager of the DPAC Coordination Unit 2 (data simulations) and now he is manager of the Coordination Unit 9 in charge of the design, implementation and operations of the data archive. He has been Principal Investigator of several projects of the Spanish National Plan dedicated to the development of Gaia data processing, and also coordinator of the European project GENIUS FP7 dedicated to the development of tools for the data archive. Nowadays, he is co-PI of the Gaia group in Barcelona.
He also enjoys public outreach of science as speaker, articles and books author and as member of Big Van Science group. Since 2013 he is also founder of DAPCOM SL, a UB and UPC spin-off company, where he participates as a scientific and business advisor.
