Task: Profesor Lector in Qauntum Physics and Astrophysics department. Research in Galactic structure and kinematics, Gaia-CU9 (Validation)

Dr. Merce Romero-Gomez is a researcher in the Galactic structure, kinematics and dynamics group within the GaiaUB team. She obtained a degree in Mathematics at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in 2002 and the PhD degree in the Aerospace Science and Technology in the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in February 2007, obtaining the
extraodinary prize for the best thesis in science defended during that year. The PhD thesis is a contribution to the formation of spiral arms and rings in barred galaxies using invariant manifolds. She spent two years as a postdoc researcher in the Laboratoire d’Astrophisique de Marseille in the “Dynamique des Galaxies” group under the supervision of E. Athanassoula. The research work during the stay in Marseille was devoted in applying the manifold theory to barred galaxies focusing on reproducing observed characteristics and giving predictions for further observations.

Currently, she is involved in the Galaxy modelling using both test particle and N-body simulations, and also contributing in the creation of the Gaia catalogue under the CU9-Validation unit.

She also participates in the teaching tasks of the department, specially giving the Algebra, Differential Equations and Vector Calculus, and Observational Astronomy practices of the Physics degree, and Galactic Astronomy of the Master of Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology. She also participates in outreach activities giving talks to general public.
